Woolly Tyme Club July Blanket

I finished the July blanket on Saturday! Well, technically the stitching is done but the finishing is NOT done. Here is a picture.

I tried to even up the fringe a little on the front and I think I made it worse. I was sort of winging it. I just need to do it right. The colonial knots were fun to do, although I did agonize a bit about placement. I think it turned out fine. I'm also not sure about the star charm. The instructions say to refer to the photo for charm placement, but the photo is so blurry there is no way to tell. I plopped it onto the blue field of the flag and I think it looks good there.

The instructions call for putting felt on the back, but I'm leaning toward using cotton fabric from my stash instead. I have a nice blue fabric with stars that would be great for backing this one, and I have no doubt that I can come up with appropriate fabric for the next 11. My cotton/quilting fabric stash is starting to rival my stitching fabric stash! I'm looking forward to the August blanket. It is really cute with a giant sunflower and a little blue bird.

Thanks to everyone who offered ideas about the vinyl weave. Gina asked if it is plastic aida and I think the answer is yes. It is plastic and it looks more like aida than what I would call plastic canvas. I'm still undecided about what to do with it, so perhaps putting it back on the shelf is the best plan of attack for the moment. Unless somebody out there wants it?

It was nice to hear from so many of you either teetering on the Quaker Garden cliff or already cannonballing over the edge. I'm trying to decide whether to stitch it over one or over two, then I'll buy fabric. I'm leaning toward over one. I won't buy fabric until my next trip to Mom & Me, so I have plenty of time to decide. Opinions anyone?

Great looking blanket. I think you picked the perfect spot for the star.

Don't ask me about stitching over one. I hate it, unless I'm working on 14 count evenweave fabric or something.
These blankets are so cute! So there's one for every month? That's lovely...

I love this blanket! Fringing is something of an art, in my opinion. And I agree with the idea of using a cotton backing.

Great work! I can't wait to see it finished and on the sheep. :)

Cotton fabric is a good choice. YOu know, maybe it is suggested to use felt so it won't slip off the lamb.

I looked at the other patterns -- too darn cute. This will be a barrel of fun every month [or does she mail them 2 at a time -- ]

Over one or over two -- QG should be stunning.

I had the same problem with figuring out where that star charm was supposed to go. So, I emailed them and asked...you picked correctly! It does go on the blue of the flag. (interesting to note that in the next couple they actually tell you where to put the charm).
