What's In The Bag?

A few weeks ago I was Christmas shopping, trying to find salt cellars for a friend who collects them. While poking through one of the local antique malls I came across a booth with several zip-close bags of sewing and crafting items. Some of the bags had vintage items in them. I could have brought them all home, but I restrained myself and only bought two.

Here are the contents of the first bag, a must-have due to the old bone rings.

Won't these rings be fantastic for floss holders in a needlebook or something similar? I also love the ladies on the Luckyday card of buttons. The spangles aren't my thing, but the packaging is fun. This bag was $2. Wahoo, what a deal. Here is a close-up of the Luckyday ladies.

The condition of the card is a little sad...but considering what I paid I certainly won't quibble.

The second bag was larger, and a whopping $5. Here's what was in it:

This turned out to be an interesting mix of goodies. Most of the thread spools are made of wood. The scissors wouldn't cut warm butter but I think they have a cute shape. The two little boxes on the right side are full of lead for a mechanical pencil. Mark will be happy to have it. The green plastic square on the right is a little plastic pouch or envelope, an advertising item from Needles Moving and Storage. I've been wanting to learn to tat, so now I have a shuttle. I would have paid a few bucks for a new tatting shuttle, so I think the bag was a bargain.

Sometime after Christmas when I have a spare minute I think I'll run back up to the antique mall and see what else this vendor has...

The green and white fabric in the above pictures is the back door curtain my Mom made for the previous house we lived in. I found it while rummaging in the top of the closet today. It made the perfect backdrop for photographing the items, plus I made a discovery. I used our bed as a "table" to set up the pictures and lo and behold the curtain fabric is nearly the same green as one of the colors in our quilt.

I see this curtain morphing into a throw pillow sometime soon. Or whenever I get the craft table cleared and sewing machine set up. Yeah, that might not be soon. Whatever. I'm still excited! And because someone is sure to ask...the quilt is courtesy of JCPenney. I love it, but I didn't make it.

I've been reading blogs today and it sounds like everyone is taking a much deserved break for the holidays. Our plans are low-key and local, so I might find the time to blog again. Heaven know I have plenty of things to write about, starting with the Lebanon show and the La-D-Da class. Just in case I don't make it back here before Tuesday, Merry Christmas everyone!

You sure have been receiving (pillowcases) and buying fun vintage things. You are so right, those bone rings will be perfect for a needle-case.
Have a very Merry Christmas and a happy & healthy 2007.

Fabulous antique finds! The bone rings alone are worth the price...and the wooden spools are cool, too!

Yippie Skippie! Excellent finds. The rings are to die for. Will be awesome in a needlework thingie [ok, word escapes me]

Tatting? Really? you are thinking to give it a go? Good luck!

I'm working on family photos -- you know, the paper pictures that need to be put in an album or something. What a mess they are. I sure am glad for digital images. No more envelopes of negatives & snapshots here & there & everywhere.

Enjoy the day Chelle
